Potato prices in some parts of the world are not likely to drop anytime soon. In some regions a drop in production has contributed to this market behavior. Also the rise of online potato trading can be the cause of rising prices. Local governments have tried to stop the rising prices without success.
Measures like black marketing or keeping a close watch on stock buildup of suppliers have not delivered lower prices. In the Indian state of Bengal the agriculture marketing minister indicated that potato industry saw a drop of 15 percent. This could hurt the entire chain of the industry.
Not only farmers but also sellers of food processing machines are going to suffer from this drop. A potato peeler in the end can only reach good production when supply of potatos are enough. The agriculture marketing minister also indicated that prices in retail markets were lower than last year.
